Three Parks to Paint in London

London has been home to some of the most famous painters in the world, and some of those painters gained notoriety by the deftness of their brushwork in capturing and conveying a sense of atmosphere in the scenes they painted. This was not accomplished overnight and many of the painters returned time and time again to their favorite locations hoping someday to get it just right. Monet was one such painter and he was one of the first to decide that the atmosphere in which a setting lay was as important as the subject itself. Hence he spent considerable time painting and repainting scenes of churches, cathedrals and gardens. His garden paintings are some of the most famous in the entire art world.
London has no shortages of locales to capture in paint, but their gardens are second to none. There are three in particular that lend themselves well to the practice of landscape painting, and the iconic scenes of water, flowers and people provide rich opportunities for those seeking to strengthen their brushwork.

Hyde Park is one notable example, with its serpentine river and boaters floating lazily along. This garden provides pastoral scenes every single day all year round and there is no limit to the number of ways the beautiful pastoral park can be depicted.

Kensington Gardens also has a charm all its own due to the extensive landscaping and attention to detail of the overall environment. The best arborists in the world have been continuously shaping this iconic park for hundreds of years.

Holland Gardens is one last spot where the pastoral painter can get their fill of tall green grass, glass like water, and flowers in several of it’s landscaped gardens, each with their particular charms. But none of these should be attempted in a quick stay in London. There are simply too many details to capture and distill. Much better off are those who find holiday apartments in London since they won’t be as tied to their schedule as the fly-by-night visitor. There are plenty of short term rentals London has to offer, and they all work well as a base of operation during your painting vacation.
