You can be forgiven if ever you find yourself on a short visit to Scotland, torn between two of its most famous cities - the county’s number one tourist destination, Edinburgh, or its second, but probably its most important commercial city, Glasgow. Both have lot to offer.
The latter is more scenic and is surrounded by some of the most important Scottish history. The other is more for a people’s person. If you want to soak up every day Scottish life and culture and be warmly welcomed, then Glasgow is perhaps your best bet - though there is not too much of a difference between the two cities.
Scottish hospitality is renowned. You will appreciate it more if you come from or having been living in London for a long time. If my comments so far has not helped you decide on where you want to stay while in the country, then why not avoid both cities and plant yourself somewhere close to both?
Strathclyde is just 45 minutes from Edinburgh Airport, and 30 from Glasgow Airport. You will enjoy the best of three worlds staying there - the buzz and crowded life of major cities when you want it, as well as something more sedate – Strathclyde – a region that was once a suburb of Glasgow and still retains much of its tranquillity in relation to the two cities. A good place to stay is at the Strathclyde hotel.
One of the advantages of choosing such a base is that once you leave your hotel, which, if it is a luxurious like some of the Perthshire hotels, the immediate surrounding area will be cheaper to wander around. The cost of food and transportation, should you want to explore will be more reasonable. The University of Strathclyde is also situated here, so you will definitely not be in the middle of nowhere.
An incredible place to stay if you want to spoil yourself is at the Hilton Strathclyde hotel. If you are on business and travelling as a group you will be glad to know that it has a business centre and all the facilities you will need for a business trip
