Holidaying in Great Britain

Concerns about the environmental impact of air travel, combined with a need to cut holiday costs and a desire to boost the British tourist industry have contributed to an increased tendency for British people to take holidays on their own turf rather than immediately heading for foreign climes. While, as a nation, we are still keen on our breaks in the sun abroad, there has been a marked increase in the number of holidays we are spending here in Britain itself.

As a holiday destination Scotland is enjoying a new popularity and anyone who has visited this beautiful part of the British Isles will immediately understand why so many people are choosing to take their holidays there.

Scotland is a marketing team’s dream as it appeals to so many diverse sections of society. Its historic cities, such as Edinburgh, appeal to those who want to snap famous sights and enjoy walking historic streets and taking in city views, while its countryside appeals to everybody from businessmen looking for golf holidays to adrenaline junkies looking for white knuckle thrills and spills in the countryside. Add to that the fantastic ski and snowboarding opportunities offered by the towering mountains of the stunning Cairngorms region in the Scottish Highlands; and the adventure sports potential of the rugged landscape of Perthshire, and it is clear to see that Scotland can be marketed as a holiday destination for many types of visitor and on many types of budget. Perthshire has become the top destination in Scotland for adventure sports holidays, and the region is now being marketed as ‘Scotland’s Adventure Capital’. As a result, Perthshire hotels are now beginning to see a steady stream of adventurous young people keen to take part in such adrenaline-pumping activities as canyoning and cliff jumping, while those of a more gentle persuasion are happy just to enjoy walking, cycling and pony trekking in picturesque countryside.

Scotland is a small country that boasts a huge number of attractions, and its appeal as a holiday destination for both British holiday makers and foreign tourists shows no sign of abating just yet.
